Coaches/recruiters: keep an eye on this guy. Wicked smart, tremendous work ethic, very coachable with a great attitude, putting on strength rapidly, and a lightning quick swing through the ball. He’s the guy you look forward to coaching for 4 years.

A reliable holder improves mechanics, and perhaps more importantly, the kicker’s confidence. They can be alchemists who turn a poor snap into gold, and the kicker knows the ball will be there. Work with a holder and not just off of sticks!!

No matter the level, this is why it’s good to remind the unit preseason, in season, and in game, that kickoffs are LIVE BALLS and are different than punts. Chaos happens, and players need quick, simple reminders. (Remind them on punts about POISON as well)

I have a few adjustments to this, but it’s a great point that you need to ask a lot of questions and understand all the aspects of an opponent’s punt team. The complexities of punt return have made it my favorite phase of special teams.
Special Teams matters too. Here’s a visual aid on what questions every special team Coordinator should know when facing an opposing team punt team. Preparation is everything especially when getting your punt return team knowledgeable on who they are facing.
