They've reduced the damage of it immensely, in the cartoon it extends all the way over his ear and it impairs his sight from that eye I believe as it always looked more closed. Meanwhile in the LA it's barely a bruise and his eye seems just fine

"How dare you be happy" is an ugly but all too common and relatable way of thinking, especially when you're at a point where you've been very unhappy. She has no completely justifiable reason to hate it so she lets them have it as she envies it IMMENSELY.

Ruby is relatable for us all, just a normal girl with normal knees who happened to be thrust into a cruel reality. I think that's something everyone can connect with regardless of what type of harsh reality they're facing, that's why she's brilliant as an MC.
