#Parachinar is burning and no-one is even talking about it. Everyone, it seems just cares about their own cause. Is it a general lack of empathy or is it just Shia-phobia not letting you speak out on the burning situation of Parachinar and its people.

I’ve written to Goldsmiths to say I do not wish to be an Emeritus Professor of an institution that does not respect the universality of human rights or the importance of good ethical & scholarly practice.
I ran this programme. I invested years of my life, my energy, my health because even though it was small, poor, marginal, we did great things, spoke about important topics, tried to speak truth to power. It breaks my heart into a million pieces to see this. 💔

Shaza before anything else, can you please explain why, as IT Minister, you're using an app your govt banned for the rest of us while using a VPN that your govt also banned for the rest of us? Do you not feel even an iota of shame for the digital apartheid imposed in Pakistan in

Security forces are firing directly at peaceful protesters using snipers, with many reports of fatalities among the demonstrators. The situation is rapidly deteriorating, and the people of Pakistan are facing extreme state repression. This Must Stop! #UndeclaredMartialLaw

Shockingly violent tactics to suppress protesters in Islamabad. The civilian government goes on to alienate the public, and for whom? Poor political choices…
PAKISTAN: The government must fully protect and ensure the rights of protesters and immediately rescind the ‘shoot-on-sight’ orders that provide undue and excessive powers to the military. In response to protests by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in Islamabad, the

So many replies to this. “Enjoy and support each other” seems to me to be the best. In a phD workshop our mentor said “put something out in the world that you would stand by” and since then academic writing was never the same to me.
Fast academia is toxic and should not be celebrated. It makes people sick and transforms a vocation into something vocational. Write fewer things and enjoy what you write. Focus on novelty over quantity. Learn from and support each other.

Incredibly brave and brilliant performance by Faiza to stand up to the bullying Labour Party machine. Their authoritarian actions gifted the seat to the conservatives. Hopefully @UKLabour HQ will be thinking about how to learn the right lessons from this.
They said we wouldn’t get anywhere. They put out graphs they knew were lies in order to confuse local people. They lied about me to mislead people. But in just 4 weeks we achieved the same vote as a political party that has been around for over 100 years. I’m so angry that the

Kudos to @DurhamSociology and @UCLSociology for leading on institutional messages of support to our colleagues at Goldsmiths. This is a matter of utmost gravity + the value of institutional solidarity can't be underestimated. @essexsociology @UoECrim @MigEssex @WeareCRESI

The scale and depth of the disaster unfolding at @GoldsmithsUoL is confounding. This is intellectual vandalism. Complete, utter madness. My heart is with friends and colleagues at @SociologyGold. The hardship fund is here:
