On Friday, just after 8 PM, July 5, 2024, the Snyder Fire Department was alerted to a car fire on the off-ramp from the I-290 to Sheridan Drive. Firefighters arrived to find a vehicle on fire, with its occupants safely out of the car. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire.

Luckily the fuel tanker did not suffer major damage. The driver was treated by Twin City Ambulance and transported to a local trauma center. The Amherst Police Department is investigating the scene.

Saturday afternoon, 6/15/24, Snyder firefighters responded to a motor vehicle accident involving an SUV and a fuel tanker trailer. One driver of the SUV had to be extricated by the Snyder Fire Department.

The next round of heavy lake effect snow is set to impact areas east and northeast of Lakes Erie and Ontario later today through Thursday. Localized event total snowfall amounts of 1-2 feet plus will impact similar areas that just received heavy snow from the recent storm.

Remember, as you dig out today, take five extra minutes to clear your nearest fire hydrant. Plows are out clearing streets and snow can easily get pushed up and over a hydrant. You or your neighbors will be grateful if it’s needed in an emergency. @wgrz
