I legged it for a bus today, the driver pulled off having clearly spotted me- seconds later, a taxi pulls up and says ‘Ah love, that was really shite he definitely saw ya, hop in, I’ll bring you wherever you want for free’

Protecting the Irish language and its speakers doesn't take away from those who have lost their jobs etc, in fact, many of those speakers are in those very same circumstances in some of the most vulnerable places in the country.
People are losing their lives in a pandemic, others are in difficult circumstances, people have lost their jobs, businesses have closed. And Eamon O Cuiv is talking about the Irish language. Mr O Cuiv has a large public service salary and can look forward to a handsome pension.

Lost the most amazing Uncle James this week, pictured below changing the cables on the Golden Gate Bridge, he spent time in the American Army and met Fidel Castro and still thought Tyrone was the be all and end all. What a life ❤️

To anyone who missed it, here's the portion of Séamus and Breanndán Begley's interview on
@Tommedian
last night where they answered only in Irish, the Kerry dialect is so nice to listen to
'Why do Irish people feel protective about the Irish language when an Englishman takes aim at a language we ourselves have neglected, insulted and ignored for so many years?'
#johncleese
Oh, I am off on one at work today 😆
Rang Mam numerous times yesterday to wish her a Happy 75th Birthday, to no avail. When she eventually answered the phone, she announced she was ‘outside skipping’ and couldn’t answer the phone 😅💪🏽❤️

“We can change the way we think about Irish, the Gaeltacht and everything else. Because it's our path to bilingualism and all that entails, because it's an identifier, a tapestry. Because it's alive. Because it's attractive. Because it's valuable."
❤️
"Being an Irish speaker can be an exhausting and sometimes gas-lighting experience. We are often told we don’t exist, and if we do exist, we are somehow infringing and dirtying the monoculture of those who don’t speak any more languages than English"
I didn’t expect the tweet about the taxi would reach so many people; neither did I expect it to incite men (this isn’t the complete list) to call me a liar, suggest I performed sexual favors on the taxi driver, make this about what I look like or send me link to porn websites
Nothing quite like registering for the vaccine and getting covid the next day 😭😭😭
Going to start watching Schitt's Creek. Any other watching/listening/ reading recommendations welcome, le bhur dtoil 🙏
It says a lot about how women and their stories are perceived; not believed, judged on their looks, sexually objectified, silenced. Progression, eh? You’ll not shut us up though 🥰🔥
I tried not to get into this but I have failed..

Students can, and do leave the second level education system with a good level of Irish (I was one of them). Does that mean everyone leaves with language proficiency? No, but the same can be said of other subjects too.

Mo chroí trom ag smaoineamh ar mhná leochaileacha agus a gcuid páistí anocht. May we never forget how they were treated in 'care'. May we never let our bodies be policed, our sexuality controlled and our autonomy removed again

I used to frequently tweet about feminism and other such bad words but it’s exhausting and I’m not sure if it ever did any good. Now, I try and support the women in my life, read more books by women, listen to more music by women etc.

mo shaol nuair a thosaigh sé sa bhliain 1996. Chonaic mé daoine le Gaeilge nach bhfaca mé roimhe sin agus ba léir dom go mbeadh deiseanna ann dúinn. Tá súil agam go ndéanfaidh

There’s nothing quite like closing your eyes in a jacuzzi and opening them only to be surrounded by 5 members of the All Blacks team 💦 (that’s the emoji for the jacuzzi 😜)
When you think about it,

is an acknowledgement of the patriarchy- women were supposed to be grateful for one day of rest over Christmas but it would be nice to reimagine it as a day to take stock of how we all talk about and treat women.
Wow
@ArrachtFilm
, dochreidte cumhachtach. Is fiú go mór an chéad chuairt ar ais chuig an bpictiúrlann a chaitheamh ag tacú le scannán Éireannach, Gaelach 💖
My mam was nervous about going to a work reunion tonight. We chatted about it on the way to it in the car, finally when we arrived she announced ‘I walked in there on my own, the only woman in 1969, I’ll do it again tonight, in 2019’ 🔥❤️🥰
Cheannaigh mé troscán dara láimhe agus nuair a thug mé m'ainm don té a raibh sé acu labhair siad i nGaeilge liom agus nuair a bhailigh mé an troscán Gaeilge ar fad a bhí ag a máthair liom. Idir sin agus an físeán den rothaí, tá dóchas ann ⚡💖

éigean ann. Thug Rónán misneach dúinn ár mbealach féin a aimsiú. Chreid sé sa chruthaitheacht, chreid sé sa cheannródaíocht, chreid sé sa chaint agus chreid sé ionainn ar fad. D'oscail sé a chroí dúinn ar fad, gach saghas Gael ❤️💔
A male driver (👀) threatened me and intimidated me so much I had to pull off the road a few weeks ago. I rang the Gardaí with the reg, they took it seriously and have been in touch with me since re the incident. Credit where credit is due. 👍🏽

Women, deleting the Daily Mail app from your phones is a form of self-love.
It fuels misogyny, self-hate and reduces women to their body parts.
Do it today.

“What if we’ve been looking at Irish through the wrong lens all these years? Rather than it being a subject that causes heartache in schools might it actually be a periscope into our psyche and our souls?”
Last tweet on this; the VAST majority of people have been lovely and seen the simple kindness and humanity in this incident but I won’t be standing idly by whilst a number of idiots try and make women feel continually objectified and small. Oíche mhaith x
Sex is good and everything but have you ever successfully convinced someone
#gaeilge
isn’t being ‘shoved down throats’ anymore and is in fact a living, evolving language?
Me to Mam: “I might come for that hike with you tomorrow morning”
Mam to me: “are you sure you’ll able? It’s 4.5 hours”
Me to Mam: “I’m 32, you’re 73, I think I’ll keep up”
Mam to me: “I’m from Tyrone though, I’m hardy.”
#carrickmore
If one more person says to me that they’d like to call their child a ‘lovely Irish name’ but don’t want to ‘saddle’ them with a lifetime of pronouncing it to people... difficult is a challenge, boring is, well just boring 😅
“give your daughters difficult names. give your daughters names that command the full use of tongue. my name makes you want to tell me the truth. my name doesn’t allow me to trust anyone that cannot pronounce it right.”

Going home with a negative test in me back pocket. Thinking of those who haven't been so lucky. I had to 'take to the bed' for a time before I had the good news 😭😁
