This is of course nonsense, Italy, Ireland and the whole of the EU could sanction Israel in the morning if it wished to. We know this as the EU have had 18 rounds of sanctions against Russia. It is a clear political choice by the EU to support the occupation and genocide.

To be a pres candidate you need 20 nominations from parliamentarians (out of 234) or 4 councils (of 31). It is a competitive process, as parties or indys will only support one candidate, ie CC won 5 opposition parties, MS 2. Proposals for change: to include 12 MEPs, or 80 cllrs.

All in all a very exciting election, those to the right of FG/FF ran a failed last minute campaign to get a candidate, and instead spoiled votes, FF lost their candidate entirely. The negative campaign against CC backfired, her movement led the field gaining support from July on
