Do we like contaminants in our cultures at CICG? No... but sometimes Yes! 😃We found this glomoid sporocarp and attempted to establish a single culture. We add an X to the isolate code so we know it is a culture from a contaminant. Fingers crossed!!

Acaulospora mendoncae, a species that I described to honor my undergrad advisor Dr. Margarida M. Mendonça. She provided support and guidance on my early stages as a researcher and encouraged me back in 90´s to pursue a Master and PhD abroad!

Proud of my former students Caroline Vieira and Matheus Marascalchi not only for the publication but for "dispersing" to new niches and continuing their careers, now in Microbiology and Botany Institutes of the Czech Academy of Science.

We started to use multi hosts to establish new AMF isolates and grow cultures to boost sporulation: Kalanchoe (CAM plant) and Belamcanda (as seedlings), and seeds of Brachiaria/Sorghum grass and Bidens pilosa. Results so far are promising!!
