I like how sometimes in those old pulp stories you'll come across a trope that just didn't stick over the decades. Like dinosaurs being on venus and mars and stuff. We eventually figured out that dinosaurs aren't really a space thing but they didn't know.

D&D doesn't need corporate backing to survive, it's totally sublimated culturally. I can envision a world where saying "do you want to play D&D?" just means fantasy roleplaying in a general sense, not the specific brand. Like saying "do you want to play cards?"
