Insightful article by @HolzerHarry about policies to improve skills, wages, and jobs. In particular, I've been puzzling over how/whether to incentivize "high road employers," which Harry discusses. https://t.co/fGNX6nrMlL

America needs robust programs to train workers for high-paying jobs through: (1) workforce programs at community colleges; (2) other private or nonprofit training providers; and (3) work-based learning models like apprenticeships. @HolzerHarry in TLP https://t.co/lVrEGm4ngl

This morning, the @chicagofed introduced new labor market indicators that combine private sector data with official labor statistics to provide a real-time view of hiring, layoffs and other job separations, and an early forecast of the unemployment rate. https://t.co/iln1LpPNAr.

Still the best paper on effects of H1B by John Bound and his colleagues: https://t.co/ebtXLln8Nj Trump's new fees on H1b might protect employment for Ameicans in the industry but will hurt consumers and slow innovation - just like his tariffs.

I disagree a bit with Michael on this. Unemployment is slowly ticking up, vacancies are ticking down, job losses and long-term unemp are rising....as well as dropping consumer sentiment - signs of weakening demand and not just labor supply/immigration effects
The Fed is wrong to start a cutting cycle in an economy with strong growth, accelerating inflation, and low and stable unemployment. My @ProSyn column:

Happy to see @Will_PPI piece in the Hill today calling for a new economic message from Dems, including a focus on "better skills and jobs" among other sensible ideas: https://t.co/5kciW8Xffx

That starts by radically reorienting their economic priorities to help working Americans get ahead, not just get by.

.@HolzerHarry: "Donald Trump’s long-run effects on our economic growth will matter much more over time; and it is here, in effects that usually don’t make the headlines, that his economic policies could be mostly costly."

While effects on jobs or interest rates in the short term get more headlines, Trump's longer-term effects on the economy will be more important

My newest Forbes article: https://t.co/zBkwaRR5Gu While short-term changes in interest rate or jobs get the most press, Trump's negative long-term effects on econmic growth are more important.

Interesting pattern in income trends for 2024: https://t.co/qXISCzNgHb Incomes rose for Latinos and Asians but fell for Blacks; rose at 90th percentile but not 10th or 50th; rose for YRFT males but not females. Do worse Black outcomes reflect many fewer YRFT male workers?
