A short, Need to Know, by me on the recent submarine announcement. Ottawa faces choice of style or substance on the program: choose a riskier, slower option to build its relationship with Germany or acquire the Korean option rapidly to give the RCN real capabilities with a decade

Provided some comments to the FT on Golden Dome and the $61B ask by Trump. Short answer: not happening, especially for a program at the extreme end of technical risk and unlikely to be pursued past his term, if not the mid-terms.

My latest in the Hub on the qualities that the next Minister of National Defence should have. TLDR: real clout within the Cabinet and with the PM and a managerial ability to see through the major modernization the CAF requires for the future. https://t.co/IVR0w6WW3M

I know the F-35 is the favourite target of most Canadians at the moment, but I have to agree with Richard Shimooka that canceling its acquisition would be a very, very bad decision for the Government of Canada to make.

Sadly, 538 is shutting down and that goes for my role too. It’s been a privilege making the politics podcast for the past nine years, so a really big thank you to everyone who tuned in! There are a bunch of talented journalists newly on the market as of today -- my colleagues.
