Overheard in a Hexham shop just now: “Cafés & restaurants in cathedrals & abbeys are really good. I’ll always go to one of those if I can.” Take a bow, @HexhamAbbey, @nclcathedral, @durhamcathedral & many others! You know who you are. @engcathedrals @WeAreCathedrals

The @bbcsingers are performing Brahms’ Requiem (2 piano version) tonight on @BBCRadio3 at 19.30. Let us hope that this superb choir will not be singing a requiem for itself. #SaveBBCSingers

EVERYONE needs to read this leaked letter from @BBCSingers to BBC management! I’m lost for words! If you were under any allusion these decisions were taken with care, read on! Someone should be losing their job, and it shouldn’t be BBC musicians!
Who's bossing the BBC? Hint: it's not the D-G https://t.co/7rH1h7jNX7

“None can hold a candle to the @BBCSingers for power, consistency, ensemble and in particular, variety.” Reading @brinsherratt’s piece confirms the view that this extraordinary decision is an act of self-harming madness by the #BBC. It must be rescinded. https://t.co/40IGKepoFh

The ensemble is lauded across the classical world. The BBC Singers inspire, educate and entertain, and their closure matters to us all. Here is why

“The BBC Singers is one of the leading advocates of choral music in the world, and their budget probably equals one sport presenter’s salary. The BBC corporate spin on it is beyond belief.” https://t.co/BrgAdIGEA3

If @GaryLineker has a view about the BBC’s plan to disband the @BBCSingers, we’d love to hear it.

Terrible news. Grew up with @BBCSingers (well, we all did). Losses at the BBC are inevitable given the cuts forced on them by government, but so often instead of cutting management they get rid of the people who make unique stuff we should be proud of.
Will be absolutely amazed if the £1 million plus saved by axing the BBC Singers and 20pc of the BBC's salaried orchestral musicians is all put back into the classical music budget
