If the government focused more on policies that actually make life livable, like housing, healthcare access, and job security, maybe fewer people would be pushed to the edge in the first place. Wouldn’t that be a better way to support everyone's mental health?.

Mental health is now the most prevalent disability among working-age adults because society is finally acknowledging it and is better at diagnosing it. While economic, social, and healthcare pressures have pushed more people to the edge, the support systems haven’t kept pace.

Ever wondered what PIP is or why some disabled people get it?. It’s not “free money.” It’s not “extra help.”. It’s a lifeline in an inaccessible world. Disabled people face on average £1,095 in avoidable extra costs per month. #TakingThePIP #DisabilityBenefits

If we closed the disability employment gap even slightly, it would bring £50 billion back to the treasury. But this will never happen when everything you need to get into work is inaccessible, non-existent or broken. #TakingThePip #EndAbleism

Imagine being told you’ll have to wait 47 years for a home that meets your basic needs. For the @BritishAcademy_ Journal, I explore how we arrived at this point and why accessible housing should be the norm, and will most likely affect you one day too.

Most disabled people (8 out of 10) weren’t born disabled; they became disabled through accident, illness and injury. That means any system that marginalises us is marginalising the future you, too. This is not the solution. The government has not listened. #TakingThePip.
