A good haul of clustered everlasting (Chrysocephalum semipapposum) seed from earlier in the month! We tend to collect our Asteraceae species seasonally and according to demand, due to their short-lived seed viability (a year or few at best). Photo: Dan Frost.

Some great looking cherry ballart (Exocarpus cupressiformis) - got to love the look of it all together. When first collected the red fruit was pretty juicy. Now it's drying and the blue-green seed that sits underneath the fruit is becoming the show-stopper! Photo: Dan Frost

Last week Robert snapped this pic of a beautiful Themeda patch along the railway line. Inadvertently preserved thanks to railway regulations. This is also common in other areas such as historical cemeteries, church grounds etc. Photo: Robert Hall

Robert and Dan spent some time yesterday collecting from the Carex patch! This species is great for wet or boggy patches, and is a wonderful habitat plant for native insects, amphibians and small birds. Check our catalogue at https://t.co/6ZnXEk8JV2 Photos: Dan Frost

Acacia implexa doesn't seed every year, so it's good to collect when it's available for harvest. This batch from the Meredith area. Photo: Robert Hall

This old Sheoak in Bamganie has stood the test of time. Its progeny spread along the roadside gave us a harvest too. Photos: Robert Hall

Spring/Summer is prime collecting season for our partners as flowers & seed start to appear. Like the stunning peaks of the Stirling Ranges, we think their work is top-tier! ⛰️ Hats off to them on this #WorldWildlifeConservationDay💚 #SeedBank #Conservation #ProtectPlants

Sometimes, you get to a site just to find that you're a bit late. On occasion you can collect some of the fallen seed by scooping, brushing or vacuuming - but sometimes you have to just cut your losses. At least there will be ample natural seed bank accumulation in the soil!

Letting everyone know that the Seeding Victoria office will be closed for the holiday period Dec 20- Jan 6. We will reopen after the 6th, but please be aware that response times will still be limited/a bit ad-hoc over summer seed collecting season.

Dan took these photos showing the progress of wattle seed that you might come across while out collecting. Some are still green, some are ripe and ready to pick - some you can see the seed have been pinched, or the pod is open & have already shed flattened seeds! P: D Frost
