Pacific herring are dissected to extract the otolith, which can be used for aging and microchemistry. Aging can help to better estimate class structure, while microchemistry can be used to further delineate stock structure and address movement patterns in Pacific herring. 🐟🐠

fun fact vampire squids start with four fins and lose two as they grow. also, typical coloring for them outside of californian waters is black as opposed to maroon.

#UnderwaterNoise from ships at the ocean's surface can radiate to great depths with little loss in intensity. The figure below shows that ship noise is present even at 4000m below the surface (almost 5x the #BurjKhalifa, and 1m38s into the video!). Ref: https://t.co/17iEJMLdpE

Love the conversations happening so far in the NNA community meeting. @ArcticDaazhraii shared a powerful message about Indigenous Knowledge, research & equity, including a reminder to always ask “why now, why us, is there anyone missing from the conversation?” #ArcticTogether21
