1. Some gorgeous evening views of the University of Illinois campus from James Baltz of the farmdoc team. Truly stunning pictures. I hope I never forget how fortunate I am to work in such a beautiful setting.

StoneX surveys have an excellent track record. Of course, there will be revisions going forward. But this is an important data point that the corn and soybean crops are likely to be very big. I am most impressed with 205 bpa for Nebraska corn. Unreal for that state. Only.

3. What impressed me the most during my thousand-mile driving tour of Illinois and Iowa is the fact that I didn't see a truly bad field of corn or soybeans in all those miles. I think this may be what pushes national average yields for both corn and soybeans to new records this.

2. My very unscientific impressions from a quick look into our fields:. *Ears in first corn field were very large (16 X 55). Likely 260-280 bpa if season finishes well. * Ears in second corn field were a little disappointing (14 X45). Likely 220-235 bpa if season finishes well.

1. Drove over a thousand miles through Illinois and Iowa corn and soybean fields the last four days. As many other have reported, the crops look amazing from the windshield. It is hard to overemphasize the lush appearance of the corn and soybean fields after all the July rains.

While rain normally makes grain in July, it is possible to get too much of a good deal.

In the corn crop commentary that is sent to customers, we discussed that the previous corn yield rising trend has been brought to a halt by the stormy wx pattern over the past 2 wks. The decline in S MN and N IA is related to the result of hvy rains, high humidity, and low evap.
