Struggling into the first faculty meeting of the new year, and our Dean, @AMooreMcBride, charges us with… “doing the bare minimum and finding things that give us joy” to get through these times. I feel so seen. Systems can prioritize wellness over productivity when they want to.

Grind culture expands because many people engage with their jobs and work as a trauma response instead of removing the veils and addressing their trauma. Being a workaholic is a trauma response.

This little marshmallow was my constant companion for 16 years. Her life was spent w me on my travels, next to me in the car or sleeping on my desk return. She passed 2 days ago and I still can’t focus. I have a few more meetings… then just going to take some long walks.

For @NPRItsBeenAMin we're working on a story about QUITTING. Lots of folks quitting jobs for so many reasons! We want to hear from YOU. Tell us why you quit, if pandemic has to do with it (or not). Record yourself and send voice memo to samsanders@npr.org. Please RT and thanks!

Laziness is not a thing. This is a social construct used to maintain dominance and production. We can trust our limits of what we can and cannot do. Rest is a necessity, not a luxury. We are doing enough. We are enough. Our worth is not our productivity. Laziness does not exist.

Fastest wage growth since 1980s (for lowest wage workers). Need a raise? Ask for it!

It’s not a labor shortage: it’s a wages and benefits shortage. Want workers? Pay more and create an environment for people, not product/services.
