Since the Maunder Minimum (after 1715) there have been 4 Carrington level geomagnetic storms: 1770, 1859, 1872 and 1921. 4 in 320 yrs, one every 80 yrs on average. The longest period between two events: 89 yrs. 103 yrs since the last one (1921). A big one is slowly overdue.
