R.I.P. Big Ten Championship Game (2014-23). Final tale of the tape for the Big Ten West Division:
Record: 0-10 (Wisconsin 0-4, Iowa 0-3, Northwestern 0-2, Purdue 0-1)
Average margin of defeat: 21 points
Slick Leonard is the most important sports figure in Indianapolis history. More than Peyton and Reggie, because without Slick, there’s a strong chance neither would’ve had professional careers in this city.
It’s impossible to overstate his impact. R.I.P. to an Indiana legend
My Dad didn't know how access Netflix on his Smart TV, so I showed him how he needed to press the button that said "Netflix" on his remote.
LMK if you want to write an article about it.

Today: solar eclipse visible in Indiana, Purdue men’s basketball playing for national title
1969: last time Purdue played for the national title, Purdue alumnus Neil Armstrong walks on the moon
1869: last time a solar eclipse was visible in Indiana, Purdue University is founded
Ten years (!), four coaches, three first round sweeps, two resets, and one TJ Leaf later, the Pacers are moving on to the second round.
Congrats to the fans who soldiered through.
If I was the Colts, I'd immediately schedule a bunch of workouts at Lawrence Central, spread this thing, take a couple of weeks off, and come back from ADVERSITY.
Since the start of the 2018 season, Ohio State has:
- gone 26-1
- won 22 of those games by double-digits
- gone 11-0 against Top 25 teams
- lost by 29 points at Purdue
- won the Rose Bowl
- won the Big Ten Championship twice
- clinched a CFB Playoff spot
Incredible.
I just arrived at a stop sign at the same time as someone else. We both simultaneously waved each other on, then proceeded, then braked, then laughed, and waved at each other. He then waved me on and I waved to acknowledge his wave.
I think it was my most Midwest encounter ever.

The Colts were a mediocre to bad team at midseason, but they didn’t become the worst team in the league and a nationwide laughingstock until Jim Irsay started stepping in to make decisions.
Random McDonald's-related note: My freshman year roommate at IU used to go to the Read McD's and get a Filet o' Fish and a quarter pounder. He'd smash them together and call it a Flounder Pounder.
I think about it whenever I have the flu and need to throw up.

@BoilerBall
: "I am openly rooting for Purdue to make the Final Four. I know how much it would mean to those fans. Matt Painter is as good as it gets in this business. He does things the right way."
"Selfishly, I was upset at first"
This is Luck's own teammate. I think Colts' fans should get a pass for having that same reaction to a shocking, raw, emotional moment.
Love this quip from Smith about what PJ Thompson told him at half: “He said he’s not worried. He said, ‘We’re up six and you’re playing the worst game of your life.’”
So, the rocketship has landed. After 8 1/2 years, we were informed this morning that Query & Schultz wouldn’t continue on WNDE as part of massive corporate layoffs* (*See? It’s not just us!)
Not going to do a twenty-part thread or anything. Just wanted to say thanks. 🚀/🚀🚀🚀
Since this is maybe Twitter’s last night, I guess I should say I’m joining the
@LifeAtPurdue
Media Relations team next month. It’s some long title with the word “specialist” in it that I won’t bore you with, but I’m super excited to tell stories about a fantastic institution!
I love how 1993 Michigan always makes these lists. 1993 Michigan was swept by Indiana, the outright Big Ten champ at 17-1, who had the Wooden Award winner, three NBA first-rounders, and was
#1
entering the tournament.
1993 Indiana was the best team to not win the title in 1993.
Too many Purdue friends to congratulate, but congrats to all the long-suffering fans. Two more to go, but Final Four is a “buy the shirt” accomplishment.
I’m going to get ahead of this: I get the NCAA Tournament result matters a lot, but I’ll have a hard time labeling a Purdue season with 30 wins (a near certainty), a Big Ten season title, and a Big Ten Tournament title as anything other than a success.
🚨LIFE NEWS🚨
Jake and I are relaunching the show on
@iscsportsnet
. It’ll be once a week, which I know won’t quench your insatiable Query&Schultz thirst, but after a long non-compete (and two other deals falling apart), we’re excited to being back on again. Debuts tomorrow. 🚀
“The Titans are an offensive juggernaut and tonight, the Colts are going to feel the pain.”
@ClayTravis
explains why he likes his Titans to upset the Colts:
It's not Reich's play-calling and it's not analytics. The offense is *not good* and it continues to hold this team, and a very strong defense, back this season.
If reports of Jeff Brohm's bump to $6 million/annually are true, he'll be the ninth highest-paid coach in the country. Purdue will be paying their head football coach more money than these programs: Oklahoma, Texas, Penn State, Nebraska, Miami.
Wow.
It's totally ridiculous how the Colts are always put on the road for Thursday Night Football - and usually in division - here's the list*:
2007: @ ATL
2008: @ JAX
2009: @ JAX
2010: @ TEN
2011: HOU
2012: @ JAX
2013: @ TEN
2014: @ HOU
2015: @ HOU
2017: DEN
2018: @ NE
2019: @ HOU
The Pacers will draft
#13
, which means... the streak lives! For the 32nd straight year, the Pacers won't have a single-digit draft pick.
Here is the most recent single-digit NBA Draft selection for all 30 NBA teams:
Since the AFC South’s inception in 2002, the Colts remain the only division member to reach the Super Bowl, so there’s a comforting thought during this five-year period of mehhhhhhh for the franchise.
Irsay and Ballard are so angry, defiant, and defensive. The “media” didn’t cause this collapse, guys.
Hope they can take some time to self-evaluate, once they’re done finding people to fire and bench.
Philadelphia has agreed to trade Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for a 2021 third-round pick and a conditional 2022 second-round pick that could turn into a first, league sources tell
@mortreport
and me.
40 points in the regional final, game-sealing block against the other superstar, Final Four.
I think Zach Edey just solidified himself as the best player in Purdue history.
Indiana: we really don’t want to win this game, please sack us ten times
Purdue: ok but here’s the ball back
Indiana: stop
Purdue: nope
Indiana: fine we’re missing this field goal again
There are many fans - elderly, mobility issues, anxiety, or any number of other reasons - who can't attend the race in-person.
I love the 500, but it is a massive undertaking to deal with the walking, heat, and crowd. I wish the folks in charge better understood that.
Pacers got knocked out by LeBron five times in six years, and had their two best NBA teams bounced by Jordan and peak Shaq (with Kobe!), so I can’t feel too bad for Houston having to deal with the Warriors.
When
@BoilerBall
's senior class first stepped on campus, the program was coming off a last-place finish in the Big Ten and back-to-back losing seasons.
They're going for their 100th win together today.
It’s not an understatement to say this would be the most catastrophic loss in Colts regular season history. I’ve covered and/or followed the team for 20 years and can’t think of anything else that comes close.
Bill Cowher just now on live TV absolutely ripped Jim Irsay’s decision to make Jeff Saturday head coach of the Indianapolis Colts. This is a must here and must watch situation. “What about the assistants on staff?” Powerful stuff man.
Colts have been one of the NFL’s best teams since Week 4. They have a good coach. They have a good offense. They have a playmaking defense. They’ve won big (10+) and lost close.
Despite the constant whining about playcalling, all the positive traits have been there for weeks.
Reminder of the magnitude of tonight's game:
- If the Colts win tonight, their playoff odds are 86%
- If the Colts lose tonight, their playoff odds are 43%

Purdue has 40 points and every touchdown they’ve scored today has been thrown, caught, or run by a freshman player.
Plummer: 3 TD passes
