#FarmLife isn’t easy “Even if they didn’t experience those crises directly, the fear & caution get passed along,” ““When trauma pushes farmers toward short-term economic survival, it can come at the expense of soil health & conservation,” Arbuckle said” https://t.co/MrvWlK6euY

From floods and droughts to market crashes and family strain, Iowa farmers face a range of challenges that go far beyond the fields. A recent Iowa State University study analyzing these effects was...

Panic mode sets in when you see yellow seeds on ears that are supposed to be ‘white seed’ Calmness takes over when you look at the caps of the seed & see they are ‘white’ … so it’s more like milk line hadn’t recessed as much & not a contamination during shootbag / pollination

Waiting for an email response to resolve a high-priority red tape issue is as good a time as any to distract myself by going to pick a ‘quick’ 700 ears this afternoon to help wrap up harvesting one projects pollinated ears … not too many left of the seasons ~9,000 ears.

Thanks, ‘4 days ago Lisa’, I already used the video you made of the task I already forgot how to do 😳🤣
Not me making a screencap video just now Into the mic ‘I thought I was going to remember how to do this, so I didn’t make a video this summer’ …. Dear Reader, she did *not* how remember to efficiently do the file work from the summer … and so she now does have a video 🙄

🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 Some people (I’d wager mostly office based) don’t seem to understand that not all of us use outlook as our email app… so those ‘tapbacks’ to acknowledge an email is essentially ‘lost information’ to those not on the outlook train

Did you know you can use slow motion video to try and see where the problem is occurring on moving parts? Ring light + sheller + slow motion video to rule out one possible rubbing connection point

Note to self: When you have a not so, secret, secret supply of materials, hiding in plain sight, maybe don’t leave them for years on end in a plastic trash bag😅

Don’t wait too long… Going through another round of checking videos & scrap notes to consolidate notes of the season about -nicking for diff hybrid pairs … which male or female to change delay planting -what notes of ‘you should’ve done this’ for field design or planting

I have absolutely no words to describe how bad some untreated corn fields are right now. #ISUCrops

‘Past Lisa’ trying to make current Lisa chuckle over a video that is meant to ‘document an event’ (usually in the cornfield) to change some field records / my internal ‘policy’ etc (Starts watching video some weeks/months later & hears ‘Past Lisa’ say….) “Captains log…” 🤣

You've been asking & here's your answer! This was the 2nd wettest July Ames has seen on record. Only to be topped by the flooding rains of 1993, when the Iowa State Center was mostly underwater. We have almost completed our entire year's worth of rainfall in just 7 months 🤯

I know I’m not supposed to be mad about rain… but I could use a break from it this growing season

Shootbagging is a (field based) example of gaslighting Ending the day convinced you covered every single shoot in a project, only to come in the next morning and find 100s or 1,000s more needing to be covered No… I did it all yesterday…. I know it 🤨😞😅

🤨🧐🙃 What are your thoughts on it being called ‘corn sweat’? https://t.co/GTDkcq3uDl
apple.news
Corn sweat and a heat dome will bring dangerous heat and humidity to the central United States this week.
