Save Our Standards and member associations sent a letter to the Trump administration urging them to promote American business innovation and continued technological leadership by pursuing policies to curtail abusive use of SEPs. Read our recommendations:

Rep. Cline: That has a significant impact on your business when they’re making these profits. Baker: I would say it’s probably what’s driving Western module manufacturers out of business. So if you want to have only Chinese providers of modules, that’s the path you’re on.

Rep. Cline: And do your China-based competitors pay these licensing fees?. Baker: Nobody really knows, but I would say no based upon the fact that their selling modules, as I stated, that we can’t even make it at. And they’re making huge profits.

Rep. Cline: Your company manufactures modules for standards-compliant communications devices. Does your company pay licensing fees for SEPS as a result?. Baker: Yes, we’re a proactive licensor and one of the biggest frustrations we have is trying to license from Chinese companies.

SOS member Kent Baker of @ublox defended FRAND licensing in this morning’s House Judiciary Committee hearing on SEPS. “If you don’t use injunctions correctly, FRAND is absolutely meaningless.”.

@repdarrellissa Baker: "It is time to stop the recent SEP gamesmanship – only then will Chinese abuse of the standardization system be prevented and a level field for competition maintained driving U.S. success.”.

@repdarrellissa Baker: “It is imperative that the U.S. protect national security in wireless IoT devices and reject SEP licensing misconduct by any company.".

Chair @repdarrellissa underscores the importance of U.S. leadership in SEP licensing: "China’s unified effort to ‘stack the deck’ at standard setting organizations allows it to dominate discussions and embed PRC technology into key global standards".
