The latest piece of RIPTA’s efficiency study paints a clear picture: RIPTA’s costs are in line with peer agencies, and no efficiencies can be found that would prevent major job losses and service cuts. 1/3 🧵.
With the RI House set to pass a state budget tonight, @RIPTA_RI has estimated what will have to cut under current funding to close its budget gap: 90 employees and 20% of regular bus service .

We are postponing Friday's rally to give us a little more time to strategize following the House draft of the FY2026 budget dropping yesterday. The good news: The General Assembly is proposing approximately $15 million in new, sustainable funding for RIPTA.

We appreciate the efforts of @JoeShekarchi & House Finance for understanding the need for sustainable, funding for RIPTA & welcome the additional $15 million proposed. Unfortunately, it will not prevent approximately 160 layoffs & significant service cuts, including paratransit.
Some highlights from the House leaders' revised budget. - Higher gas tax to fund RIPTA.- New tax on million dollar second homes.- More $$ for primary care.- Sales tax relief for stalled Superman building redevelopment.- Higher fees on EVs/hybrids.
