Here are 2 photos of how a school I have the honor of working w/reorganized their book room after learning about the SoR.Leveled text reallocated to "knowledge building bins" & decodable texts organized by phonics skill. The SVR is evident in this book room & in their practices.

Great read if your school/district still has lots of leveled readers around... What if we organized book selections by content/topic to encourage knowledge building and sustained interest rather than a buffet of random books at arbitrary lexile levels?

Dear Students, Your intelligence cannot be measured by a number. Your intelligence is defined by your willingness to learn, problem solve and try new things. You are more than a number. You are a brilliant person with unique ideas. Share them! Sincerely, Your Teachers ❤️

90% of parents think their child is achieving At or Above grade level in Math & Reading. Less than 40% of students nationwide really are. We must address this disconnect by providing parents accurate and easy to read reports in regards to how their children are doing!

Student: Mrs. McManus, this is hard. Me: Hard and challenging are two different things. Student (while shaking her head): I guess I’ve never had challenging before. Okay. I can do this. Me (smiling): Without a doubt and you will be better for it.

Don’t lower the bar. That’s the problem. Instead, give each student what they need to reach it. #studentsdeserveit

“If students are to spend their instructional time reading texts they can already understand easily, then teaching them to make sense of complicated sentences won’t improve their performance and kids will soon learn to disregard what for them would be unproductive teaching.”

A new study makes the case for teaching social studies as a way to improve reading. Given that the elementary social studies curriculum is so weak, the case is even stronger than it seems. @MiriamFein @ClassroomWonder @educationgadfly @NCSSNetwork https://t.co/0QuEeYJ1vf
