What is the 21 March deadline?. The govt has asked councils to submit their initial plans for what the area’s new local govt could look like. Some councils are submitting one proposal and others are submitting options.

In this wave of LGR or 'unitarisation', 21 county and 164 district councils are being replaced with a single tier of ‘unitary’ local govt. 19 small neighbouring unitary authorities may expand their boundaries. Visit our explainer to find out more 👇
