I wrote this for @GuardianAus today on how, as normality finally inches ever closer for Australia, our vaccination successes arenāt equally distributed across society at the expense of the most vulnerable & so why opportunistic vaccination is our best shot ā

Yesterday the ACT became the first Aust jurisdiction to offer universal access to free abortions. This new article shows unintended pregnancy is "disproportionally experienced by women with structural disadvantages and exposure to sexual coercion." https://t.co/4Abhck7MIE

@DianaRyall 21 public hospitals in Australia are run by Catholic Health and will not offer reproductive health care. This is completely unacceptable. All public hospitals should provide all legal health services.

Reproductive health equity - specifically making abortion & miscarriage care safe, easy and accessible - is an overdue and hugely important topic of conversation this #IWD2023. Amazing work @ellierjohnson

āThis points to the notion of ālifestyle drift,ā a term coined to describe the tendency for policy to start off recognising the need for action on upstream political and social determinants of health inequities only to drift downstream to focus largely on individual behavioursā
New editorial by Prof James Smith @Flinders and I in @HealthProm_J_Au We argue that the ubiquitous use of the word 'lifestyle' perpetuates the zombie hypothesis that improving the publicās health is primarily a personal responsibility https://t.co/3TUyfEnAy8

This week in 1951, Henrietta Lacks died from cervical cancer. She is often remembered as the source of the "immortal" HeLa cell line, or as a symbol of grave racial injustice. Who was Henrietta Lacks?

~50% of people who die by suicide are seen in an Emergency Department within 12 months of death but the pressures on & environment of an ED make therapeutic mental healthcare very challenging, now more so than ever - this report is especially timely and unsurprising.
Sent home barefoot in a taxi: After attempting suicide, Jack says care in the emergency room made everything worse. @SuicidePrevAU is urgently calling for alternatives to ED care for young people at risk of suicide + self harm @ian_hickie @nievesmurray
