9/.📢 This study highlights some nuance around time ‘toxicity’ (not all bad!), & suggests that healthcare time burdens may extend beyond is easily measured (contact days). Healthcare providers should consider/ discuss the time impact of treatment w pts.

8/.🛠️ Patients and caregivers developed strategies to manage time, such as organizing schedules meticulously and seeking support to handle logistical demands.

7/.🧠 for most participants, time was not a major treatment decision-making factor. However it an important ‘co-factor’ in decision making with increased importance when perceived benefits were low, or where logistics impacted other aspects of life.

6/.🎯 Despite the burdens, many viewed treatment time as an investment toward potential life extension, balancing hope with the reality of time spent.

5/.💼 Patients likened treatment to an unpaid job to which they were obligated by their illness, requiring significant scheduling and energy, often disrupting daily life and personal activities. time recovering from side-effects also had a substantial impact.

🔍 Five key themes emerged:.1.Treatment as work.2.Opportunity costs of receiving care.3.Treatment time as an investment.4.Time in treatment decision-making.for managing treatment time.

3/.📋 We explored the perceptions and impacts of time spent on cancer care in semi-structured interviews. 20 adults living with advanced GI cancers and and 10 caregivers from one metro and one regional hospital in Australia participated.

2/.⏳ “Time toxicity” refers to the significant time patients spend on cancer treatments—coordinating and attending appointments, travel—which can impact their quality of life. These trade-offs can be significant. Whether healthcare time is truly ‘toxic’ is underexplored.
