As such there is exactly one person who is allowed to have grievance here, and that’s the next door neighbor.

And a rural area should have large enough lot sizes that large structures on adjacent properties don’t matter. But this abomination of a neighborhood does exist and the homeowners have an expectation that they won’t end up under the shadow of a tower.

The root issue here is that this type of neighborhood doesn’t exist in the first place. A residential area in a city should have a wide mix of building types built close to each other from the beginning, such that there are expectations for this type of change.

Based on my observations, the optimal way to distribute wealth to your kids is to pay for their 1) first car 2) college tuition 3) down payment on first home 4) wedding. Then nothing else. Any extra goes to grandkids for the same things.

Universal suffrage is the only stable equilibrium for a democracy. Start excluding some people and you devolve into endless battles over who does and doesn’t get the right, ending in either everybody or nobody getting it.

I learned about affirmative consent in freshman college orientation. I dutifully tried it a few times then stopped as it always made the situation awkward. Why don't they just teach young men implicit nonverbal consent?

Test scores show that the median student learns almost nothing in high school. This is well-known information that somehow hasn't sparked a revolution in education policy.

Whenever you hear about “the optics” of a situation, it means “this is how dumb people will interpret this event”.

The people who complain the most about drama in their relationships or politics in their workplace are the same people who are creating most of it.

Why do they have competitions for the fastest swimmer, and then also competitions for two slower and sillier types of swimming?
