Yesterday was my final day with the Scranton Times-Tribune. Feels weird. Thank you to everyone who read, shared or supported my work. Extra gratitude to Joe, Conor, Scott, Chris, Tom, Donnie, and Joby for making this such a special experience 🫶🏼🫶🏼 I’ll still be following along!

Big J journalist @PabloTorre on sports' "news breakers" @LeBatardShow
It's not trashing anybody to point out shared reality: The insiders don't collectively report much of anything BEFORE it happens. They share spiked rumors & transcribe completed transactions on social media so we don't have to wait an extra 11 seconds to otherwise get that info.

I’m arguably more excited about getting Mazi Smith out of the building than I am about getting Quinnen Williams into it.

James Franklin is required to look for another job in coaching or broadcasting, according to a copy of his Penn State contract obtained by FOS. If Franklin's new job pays him less than the $8M he's owed annually through 2031, Penn State only owes him the difference.

James Franklin is out as Penn State's head football coach. Associate head coach Terry Smith, the only assistant remaining from when Franklin was hired in 2014, will be the interim head coach. Penn State began the 2025 season ranked No. 2 in the AP poll and is unranked as

The Question James Franklin Would Not Answer (Hint: It’s about his future at Penn State)

James Franklin is deservedly on borrowed time, but it won’t be long until fans clamor for his replacement’s replacement too. Just like a quarterback needs to be supported by his coaching staff, a program needs to be supported by its fans. The environment’s been rotten for years.

And, frankly, I think it’s karma for the fanbase at some level. How many other programs harbor such an unearned demand for instant gratification? Allar is a cautionary tale for future QBs. Penn State has no track record of development — and no track record of fan support either.

Now, the quarterback with Penn State’s best interception percentage ends his career prematurely, underwhelming in all but one season. An unproven recruit with first-round NFL traits will head into draft season as an unproven prospect with first-round NFL traits & nothing more.
The irony in this whole Allar thing is that he's going to be remembered for big turnovers and also very likely leave Penn State with the best career interception % in program history.

In his first year as a starter, instead of protecting Drew’s development and confidence, Penn State plopped him into the starting role and hoped he fit. How do you go from shielding him as a freshman to asking a 6’5” prototype to play like Trace McSorley?

Hilariously, Penn State’s best move with Allar was perhaps the one most criticized. Ignoring the braying fanbase and sitting him behind Sean Clifford allowed Drew a developmental freshman year and protected him from a role he wasn’t ready for. So, why pivot?

It’s hard to overstate how badly James Franklin, Mike Yurcich, Andy Kotelnicki and Co. failed Drew Allar. You fight off Ohio State to recruit a five-star kid, only to force him into ill-fitting offensive systems and subsequently kill his confidence.

This was a shocking moment. Feels like all the “1-0, focused on Northwestern” stuff goes out the window once you forget to address the next opponent on the heels of your worst loss as head coach.
.@PSUPoorman got him. Franklin has opened every early week press conference with a scouting report of the upcoming opponent. This feels like an indication of just how shellshocked he and everyone else in the Lasch Building are.
