However, I’ve come to understand that most Utah conservatives that claim to be originalists aren’t actually originalists. They just like the idea of the law being what it was back when the constitution was ratified which is not how Originalism works obviously. (2/2)

The constitutional scholar Akhil Amar convinced me that Originalism was neither a conservative nor liberal approach to interpreting our founding docs. So despite transitioning to the Democratic party, I still very much identify as an originalist. (1/2)

Instead of “alliance,” we should just start using the word “confederation” to really drive home that we are reverting to a pre-1789 era where the union is weak af in all the ways that matter.

Something that’s way too common in SLC elections: the challenger has to pretend like the city is falling apart & they’ll be the savior. Then the election ends & they have to defend the city against outrageous claims they helped perpetuate. Maybe just lead with your vision?
