Voting is, of course, not the only lever we need to pull in this fight. But it’s a lever that does need to be pulled. Read more from me in this week’s @Ellevest #WhatTheElle column:

So this election doesn’t just decide who’s in charge of fighting inflation (or, if it comes to it, a recession). It also decides who stands to increasingly profit from our system … and who continues to lose out.

Yep: $105 billion. Annually. Economists are basically unanimous on this: When people can’t make choices about their own bodies, they’re not the only ones who suffer — it hurts the economy as a whole.

Reproductive rights — which are at stake in multiple state races. Abortion bans and related reproductive restrictions cost state and local economies $105 billion annually, by reducing affected people’s ability to participate in the workforce.

The economy is front of mind for many of us. Inflation is high, markets are volatile, and talk of a recession is dominating headlines. But there’s another economic issue for women and their families on the ballot.

Election Day is here. And if you’re feeling exhausted by all the messaging, you’re not alone. But we know you. You’ll vote anyway. Because a lot *is* on the line.

Historically, the health of the economy (including inflation) has had very little correlation with whoever is leading the country. You know what *is* influenced by who’s in office? And what *does* impact the economy? Reproductive rights. 🧵.
