“Mining nodes suddenly have an incentive to share unconfirmed transactions.” That’s the line. And the shift. David’s work on routing payouts isn’t just about rewarding P2P nodes, it’s about finally aligning incentives to punish collusion and reward propagation at the mempool
pretty sure I sent @nikzh the mathematical proof this is solved. the valuable thing about the solution isn't just that P2P nodes are paid but that mining nodes suddenly have an incentive to share unconfirmed transactions. ie you actually incentivize s5.1 from Satoshi whitepaper

Some recent Bitcoin debates are shining a bright light on the Free Rider Problem in Blockchain. A problem which Saito has uniquely discovered a solution for. A blockchain can't scale off of the goodwill of volunteers relaying data - it seems painfully obvious but misconceptions
It's your node. Do you want to relay non-Bitcoin data around the network for free?

Another good example of Bitcoin not having any incentive for ordinary users to run nodes. Why would a non-mining node relay anything for free? When you rephrase the question to "It's your mining node, do you want to earn fees on including data?" it suddenly starts to make sense.

not picking on Mike, but there's a common attitude that POS engenders here that needs to be flagged and purged from crypto -- the belief that problems are unsolvable -- that we're stranded with trade-offs. "but perfection isn't possible..." incentive compatibility is possible
