This year has been good, personally and professionally- I am grateful for the privilege of a this boring life As a writer, it’s been a year of see-saws, the high point being on the Discoveries Shortlist by @WomensPrize and the low point being unable to find a literary agent for-

This year has been a lot. Shege pro max. But there’s been joy too. I’m glad I have these evidence to that, otherwise my brain would remember only the challenges #MuslimWomenJoy

This is reductive and borderline harmful. Yes, teach your young people abstinence until marriage if that’s important to you. But you owe them comprehensive sexual education that allows them make safe & informed decisions about their sexuality which yes, may include abstinence

The only sex education you owe your children is this one thing —sex is for marriage. Please be responsible enough not to pass down your errors to those girls. Shalom to you.

Before I went to boarding school, my mum sat me down and warned me not to let any boy touch me, or I'd get pregnant. Lmao. Unbeknownst to her, I didn't even want boys touching me.

We doubt that a child in JSS 1 (10-12 years old) would have known “everything there was to know about sex” but we appreciate your sharing your experience with us Here’s hoping that us, the present day adults, do better by the young people around us

Lmaoo My parents/teachers never stood a chance against my environment. I knew everything there is to know about sex in Jss1. Saw a condom in js2 in the football field 😂

My mom told me that if I ended up pregnant she'd beat me up so bad, that's all I got from her in relation to sex education. Oh and when I first got my period she scolded me for asking her to buy me pads. In a nutshell, I had to figure everything out on my own 🫤

Since I carried this trend from twitter, it feels unfair not to share it with y’all This one is for everyone who dares rewrite the story of their lives, mid-way (or further) through said lives Here’s to doing it anyway!

@SRH_Ed @deenprogress I went to Catholic elementary school, so zero sex ed but my public school friend had a shockingly thorough class in 5th grade, including live nude humans. In high school more focus on “safe sex” than biology due to fear of HIV/AIDS. It was the 80’s
