We know that poor mental health impacts mental wellbeing, medication adherence and employment. Our findings highlight the need for mental health screening, prevention and support for young adults with kidney failure as they get older.

Does this reflect the ongoing challenges that young people with kidney failure face? And how much of this was driven by the Covid-19 pandemic? Only further long-term follow up will tell us...

Compared to original SPEAK study, respondents reported worse psychological health, with 40% having symptoms consistent with depression and 35% having symptoms consistent with generalised anxiety disorder.
