BREAKING: SMUFU is calling on the Auditor General of Nova Scotia to investigate the financial operations of SMU. We believe that the Senior Administration is mismanaging our university and putting the future of our institution in jeopardy.
After much hard work, we had hoped to reach a tentative agreement today. Unfortunately, we were unable to secure a fair deal from our employer.
We remain united and committed. We hope to avoid striking, but are absolutely willing to if forced.

The Saint Mary’s University Board of Governors has ratified the new three-year collective agreement effective September 1, 2022. In the coming weeks, the agreement will be posted to the university’s website with other collective agreements.
This bargaining period has provided excellent educational value to students!

All members meeting this evening at 6pm to hear our Lead Negotiator update members on the tentative agreement. Ballots will be sent via email starting tomorrow.
Changes to SMU masking policies in effect today. SMUFU was not consulted and no faculty members sat at the decision making table. We contacted Senior Administration about this and we will now have representation for any future changes to the covid policies on campus.

The President of SMU told Senate that 225 faculty and librarians voting no confidence was a symbolic gesture.
We are in trouble, and it's not about gestures. It's serious.
Symbols are the language of change. Dismissing a vote of non-confidence sends a message of indifference.
Our Employer admits violation of our CA to report on + actions to improve the employment of women, aboriginal peoples, visible minorities and people with disabilities. This was due December 1, 2022. They did nothing. This is indicative of the low priority placed on EDI at SMU.
The most ruinous shift in higher education during my lifetime is that instead of hiring administrators from the faculty, there is a professional administrator class with little or no teaching experience, and their primary goal is to get an even more lucrative administration job.
