How did SMSD legislators vote? A NO vote sustained the flat tax veto, protecting public education funding. A YES vote would override the veto, leading to a significant reduction in state revenues putting ed funding at risk of budget cuts like under the last tax experiment.

Voucher bills that divert public tax dollars to private schools were introduced last week, putting funding for the over 90% of kids that attend public schools at risk. Kansas PTA & SMSD oppose voucher programs that put funding for our kids in public schools at risk.

Thank you, Governor Kelly for making this a priority. Now we need the legislature behind fully funding special education too. Shortfall for SMSD is approximately $8 million.
