If you do an approximation of the GDP deflator formula, you will get nominal gdp growth = real gdp growth + inflation or conversely real gdp growth = nominal gdp growth - inflation. Bangladesh's real GDP growth rate (though still better than Pakistan's) is tepid at best while

@SJha1618 Real GDP growth is calculated after taking into account inflation. In that case Pakistani GDP grew by 10% in nominal terms last year.

And a source of concentrated risk for Bangladesh's banks given its undiversified nature. NPL levels for BD's RM garments and textiles sectors was north of 25% in 2024. Bangladesh has nowhere near India's industrial depth and diversity nor its technological capabilities.

Bangladesh is also making the mistake of offering itself as a geopolitical rentier state. But despite its so called 'strategic location' it actually does not have the geographic leeway, military-intelligence pedigree and the luxury of time to play this game. Yunus probably knows

The rise of Bangladesh's nominal per capita GDP is nothing for Dhaka to celebrate about. It is essentially due to high inflation & not some great growth in real output. At the same time, the Taka hasn't depreciated proportionally to the dollar because it is a managed float and

It is best to use foreign energy and mineral resources to whatever extent you can to power growth, while conserving your own. However, the geopolitics of today demands India up the ante on the domestic production front for both O&G as well as critical minerals.
