*clears throat* Long-time followers will know of my passion for - and gratitude to - public golf. It was my introduction to golf and, without it, I wouldn't be who and where I am. Today marks the first major step in paying that forward. Introducing Public Golf Counts, a

The drama at Tillicoultry starts at the first, a stunning tee shot up towards the imposing Ochils. This eye-catching 9 hole course rises and falls, asking you to drive accurately with fade (2,5,7) or draw (1,4,8). Most definitely a course I’d come back and play again. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 383

I whizzed round the charming Wee Course at @Wellsgreen. I’ve used the range many times but never played the 6 hole course. It was in admirable condition and the holes varied in length from under 100 to 182 yards. This is an excellent facility to hone your short game. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 382

Had a quick spin around the (all par 3) 9 hole course (Leitfie) at Strathmore. It’s not a patch on the excellent Rannaleroch course although the middle section has some nice woodland holes and it was only £12 so no complaints. The helpful lady in the shop was friendly. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿380

The West Water course @EdzellGolf is as lovingly looked after as the 18 holer, it looks sharp. Nice tree lined holes early on precede the course heading down towards the gurgling river. Well worth playing this delightful 9 holes with a warm welcome in the Pro Shop. 👍 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿379

I expected the 9 holes at Hazelhead to be rough and ready but it was lovely. With mostly generous fairways it’s ideal for beginners but taxing too for better golfers with both par 3s exceeding 200 yds. Tall pines line the fairways and surround the greens, very MacKenzie! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿378

I liked @Auchmill_Golf enormously. The fairways and greens are immaculate and the views over Aberdeen out to the airport at Dyce captivate. The 3rd hole (Quarry) is the standout with a downhill right to left approach to a green watched over aptly by a granite rock face. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿376

The par 3 @PaulLawrieGC course (Devenick) is tricky and great fun with water lurking on several holes. The course cleverly also has longer tees so that the holes can be played as par 4s for competitions. With a busy range and enormous shop this is a popular facility. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 375

The bonnie 4th hole at nine hole Tarland amidst the looming scotch pines was definitely the outstanding hole of the day, with hints of Augusta but also a bridge over a burn not dissimilar to the Swilken. It’s a beauty! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿373

With the sun shining and trees turning hues of orange, @jedburghgolf looked picture perfect this afternoon. The 13th really is a true gem of a hole. 264 yards, straight downhill to a green guarded by water and surrounded by gorse; take it on at your peril! ‼️🏌️‍♂️⛳️☀️❤️ 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿371

5/5 The 18th is a fitting finale to an exhilarating round, cascading home to the rickety 1890 Clubhouse (not in use now). The routing @AberfoyleGC is ingenious and intoxicating at one of Scotland’s most scenically splendid courses. Many thanks Bob for sorting our game. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿370

4/5 There is no defined signature hole at @AberfoyleGC , though 13, 15, and 18 are each mentioned as contenders. I’d add 4, a short uphill par 4 with a narrow green and 16 playing back towards Ben Lomond, tumbling down between tall trees to a low lying, hidden green…

3/5 the par threes, which play back to back twice at 5/6 and 12/13 (something of an ‘Amen Corner’) feature strongly too. The 8th asks you to fly a towering oak and the 10th, whilst just a gentle wedge, is visually delightful and audibly soothing with a babbling brook nearby

2/5 To create a course on this terrain is remarkable in itself but for the holes to be as constantly fascinating over such slopes is a triumph. No wonder only 8 bunkers are required as defence here, the oblique land at @AberfoyleGC takes care of the rest…

1/5 Played @AberfoyleGC for the first time today, a course that has been high on my ‘to do’ list for some time. The ever-present beauty surrounding this hillside woodland is only matched by the endless variety and challenge of the brilliantly maddening holes…

My old haunt @GullaneGolfClub for round 137 this year but first for a fortnight. I never tire playing Gullane, the courses and the pure greens are always a joy. Got off to a flyer on No.2 this morning with a birdie at 2nd and eagle at 3rd. Maybe I should play less more often!

35 years I saw @belindacarlisle in Glasgow. So this was a wee wander down a lovely memory lane; a swashbuckling sashay (impressively for a now 67 year old) through pop hit after hit, many of the infectious tunes forming part of my formative years soundtrack. Fab, fun gig!❤️

A very memorable couple of days finished off in style playing the original @CabotHighlands Castle Stuart links. It’s still an absolute classic, deservedly ensconced within the @GolfWorld1 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 top 100. Thank you Lenny for the warm welcome. Castle Stuart never ever disappoints.
