How we experience the world is different from allistics, but it can also be very different to white autistics. Even worse, how we are treated is different. We can (unfortunately) mask our autistic traits, but not all of us can mask our skin colour, our ethnicity or cultures.

We see work being done to support carers, even minority ethnic carers, however, our survey showed that there is a lack of support for our mental health, employment, education and womenโ€™s health issues.

We have heard from Autistics and support organisations telling us that the ethnic/ faith cultural understanding of what being Autistic is like is not understood or supported.

One thing that is coming out of our discussions from the Autistic Adult Support Fund consultation is just how much autism support lacks racial equality. #RaceEqualityWeek #OurStories #ActuallyAutistic #sema

1 in 4 of us will face a #mentalhealth challenge each year. Yet, stigma keeps too many silent. At #SEMA, we know how mental health intersects with being autisticโ€”especially in minority communities. Speaking up shouldnโ€™t mean masking. Read more: https://t.co/gpXH70rffD

These experiences are present in all sectors, all over Scotland. Organisations need to listen to lived experiences, believe them and make changes to ensure #RaceEquality actually exists. #OurStories #ActuallyAutistic #RaceEqualityWeek

The compound effect, especially for those with already sensitive nervous systems, leads to mental health difficulties, burnout and withdrawal. How can be expect them to engage in unsafe spaces? Is that fair?

Unfortunately, this is not an isolated case. Many Black, Brown, Asian, or Indigenous people will experience microagressions in white spaces, deliberate or not. #OurStories #ActuallyAutistic #RaceEqualityWeek
