Main takeaway: Populism has huge implications for international politics. While this has mostly been discussed via case studies and qualitative comparisons so far, we were able to identify the impact of populism as a broader trend in international politics.

Populists are not opposed to multilateralism as such, but rather to multilateral institutions that emphasize liberal principles such as democracy promotion or human rights and that entail power hierarchies. This is in line with findings by @FSoderbaum @KilianSpandler.
