Just your neighborhood Dockmaster taking a serious, quasi-historical, (mostly) sober look at some of the famous ships and other such things from science fiction

You can learn more from any random Discworld book than you ever could hope to learn from The Great Gatsby.
@SCShipyards I got full marks in English from 6th grade on. I never did course work, I just read books. Primarily Discworld. I would fill out a book report form for each book.

THAT SAID, the concept of "The Tenth Man" is fascinating. I've never known a government on your planet where 90% of it can agree on anything (aside from stooge governments like the CCCP and CCP, but separate topic). But, yeah, if 9/10 of you agree, 1/10 of you should make the
One of the most frustrating things about World War Z - and there are many - is that a 15-second incubation period means the virus could never spread by anything other than foot. An airport would get overrun, shut down, and grounded before any planes left.

It's still interesting / fascinating to me how so many of you humies don't understand that my delivery style is deliberately filtering. I mean, yes, I'm an asshole. But I get that out of the way at the beginning for a reason. Lightweights like ssyn6626 here need not apply.

There's a note on this idiocy that could use some help. The PLSS used by the astronauts only had a runtime of 8 hours, could be refilled from their lander, and, yes, ran on pure O2. Divers don't use pure O2, for a whole PILE of reasons.

Reportedly this is some footage from one of the planes that went into the Category Double-5 hurricane on your planet today. "This is the captain. We have a little problem with our entry sequence, so we may experience some slight turbulence..."

There's an on-target fan theory about the Mav ejection at Mach 10, that it did, in fact, kill him, and that everything after that is an afterlife fever dream. It makes sense when you think about how everything went right. Mav gets to see his old squeeze, make things right with
Since we’re talking about fucked up movie physics can we talk about how Top Gun Maverick started with an ejection at Mach 10

You're absolutely right. Earth is literally the only solid celestial body in your entire solar system. Absolutely.
@SCShipyards There's no land though :)

KEK. One of the characters even says, "Airlines were the perfect vector for it to spread." NO THEY FUCKING WOULDN'T BE. You gotta have, like, a full 24-hour incubation period (accounting for transit at both ends and waiting at the airport) to simply got across a damned ocean,

According to Bungie, when they gave Ensemble Studios our massive info dump on their universe, the horror of the Flood is: As enough infected zombies accumulate and gather dead matter into a single point, a Gravemind is formed, which is vastly more intelligent than any other

And even if a plane somehow got off the ground with an infected onboard, the entire passenger compartment would be infected within 5 minutes, into the cockpit a minute later, and then the damned thing would just crash.

A follow-up indicates they made it home, but let's hope for no significant injuries to those onboard. This hurricane is one hell of a thing.

He literally can't formulate his own thoughts and demands to be spoon-fed truly idiotic arguments (having already seen them, myself) in order to convince himself he won by inflicting them upon others. No wonder he opposes space exploration.
Anyone got a good zine version of the Manifesto of the Committee to Abolish Outer Space? I'm in the mood to pick fights with the techno optimists who think their colonial relation to the cosmos is somehow different/good.

It's always weird when people who never played New Vegas talk about things from New Vegas. Now, there's an argument to be had that the Legion wouldn't remain cohesive after Caesar's death, one way or the other, but... yeah, they were alwas misogynistic jackholes.
