Beautiful tribute by @ghazarika70. Ghee Bowman was a valued colleague and member of the South Asia Centre at @UniofExeter. He is deeply missed.

He shone the spotlight on the often-ignored role of the 2.5 million members of the British Indian Army who had served during the Second World War.

My mother spent sleepless nights worrying about the arrival of ‘seventh fleet’ during the 1965 war. I stayed awake during the summer of 1999 war. Tonight my niece is listening to the fighter jets rumbling through the night skies. Forever wars continue scarring generations.

Please remember the cost of war, once more, will fall hardest on civilians, especially in Kashmir. This is a moment to stay informed, to resist jingoism, and to call for de-escalation:

While the two countries posture for power, it’s the normal, nameless and faceless people who suffer first. If it escalates, it’s only grief. There's no glory in war. De-escalate now. #IndiaPakistanWar #Kashmir

Such a privilege, indeed! Nivedita Menon reminded us that critical thought cannot afford to remain neutral -it must constantly question, agitate and offer new visions.
