Feeling overwhelmed? Pause. Breathe. Be mindful. Mindfulness can work wonders for your mental health. Whether it’s a deep breath, a mindful walk, or a moment of meditation, the key is being present. Find more tips on mindfulness here: https://t.co/fZK3kzOchM

Can we once and for all dispense with this tedious "But he always took the bins out and said hello" commentary, as if there was a contradiction here that needed explaining. Violent men ARE "nice guys". They're nice to everyone but the women they abuse. That's the whole point.

And so the frustration continues. Rang GP practice who said they can’t help with wound care & to go to ED daily. Thankfully the local District Nurse Service has a website & a contact number. The response from their hub was professional, reassuring & patient centred.

Great care on SDEC so far while waiting for surgery. Not sure we needed the nurse in charges views on how the NHS system is broken & causing harm, or the HCA arguing with NIC about her duties. Noticing how tired staff project onto patients & each other & the impact this has

I have been asked about the relationship between "mattering" & "belonging" - both are important for people to feel at work. To quote @ZachMercurio: Mattering isn’t interchangeable with “belonging”. When we feel like we belong, we feel welcomed, accepted, and approved by a group.

New ACEs study confirms link between early childhood ACES & increased alcohol/drug use during teens. Also finds that these teens tend to use substances to cope with the mental health impact of their trauma/abuse (it's not just peer pressure). https://t.co/xsgfdJyS5Z

Live tweeting from an ED somewhere in the Midlands. Triage 1 is taking place in a very crowded waiting area where we can all see the waiting patients obs & hear their history

"Mattering" is the belief that we’re significant to the world around us. When people feel they matter, they feel seen, important & needed through how others treat them. Scholars have deemed mattering to be a core instinct that drives all human behaviour. That’s why, when someone

Every single one of the people / staff that we met were kind & gentle & hard working. Working in the system as it is & within such constraints in that environment must be soul destroying. Thank you to everyone involved x

If I ever wonder why I keep going at work it was that moment. How to support with enough flow so the elderly frail people who are all alone on trollies can get a good nights sleep with care & love on a ward

Just witnessed a corridor conversation between staff about how to clear the corridors. It was a mix between quiet determination & desperation.

The cubicle curtains were pulled back while the patient was undressed. Theres got to be a better way to find out if a cubicle is free.

Seen by a doctor at hour 5 & witnessed the best history taking & exam. Clear consent, went at the patients pace, gentle with the exam & left time for questions. A masterclass under intense pressure.

The corridor care is kind & calm. I have just noticed 3 people sitting under a (unlaminated) sign which reads “please keep this area clear. No patients to be sat in this area”

Now moved to a corridor & staff are treating an elderly couple with such kind attention. Water & a sandwich each and gentle words.

Back with triage 1 nurse who wants to retake obs because we’ve been waiting 2+ hours. We mentioned we were waiting for bloods to be taken and she asked which ones. We did have to say please ask the triage 2 nurse because it was her decision.

It’s dark now & the number of people asking triage 1 nurse when they will be seen is increasing. The atmosphere is changing in here. Feels a little more tense & fractious. Triage 1 nurse has nothing to say other than “they will call you”. She is doing a great job at staying calm
