There’s nothing better than being surrounded by a bunch of Nephrology nerds 😁 Especially @romero_NBCe1A and @dinny82 who led the wonderful kidney stone module I was a part of. 2/2

Had an amazing week as a preceptor for @ASNKidney #TREKS week at @MDIBL. It definitely deserves its nickname of “Kidney Camp”. I highly recommend it to any student interested in learning renal physiology with a research twist in the beautiful setting of Acadia National Park. 1/2

What are these? I’ve never seen dysmorphic WBCs, but that’s what they look like to me. Too few normal RBCs for a HPF with both for comparison, but they were there and smaller than these guys. 3/3

These cells were everywhere, but I don’t think they are acanthocytes. Low quality image, but the cells had granules, some with easy to see nuclei, and some of those blebs “glittered”. Also note the bacteria. I did see a few granular casts and 0-3 normal appearing RBCs. 2/3

Tried typing “highland” because there’s a neighborhood close by called “highland park”. My phone autocorrected it to hyponatremia 😂 Now I officially feel like a Nephrologist.

Applications for Kidney TREKS are open! I participated in a similar course as a #Nephrology fellow which was utterly amazing! A week of delving into the science of how the kidneys work and the research performed to discover that knowledge! Plus, you can’t beat those Acadia views!

Why calculate a urine anion gap? This never clicked for me until @NSMCInternship explained it’s a way to detect urine ammonium. Thanks to @Nephro_Sparks & Dr. Sarah Street for helping me turn it into a mini-chalk talk!

I love my dialysis unit team! They surprised me with a congratulatory cake for passing the Nephrology boards! It’s such a privilege getting to work with them. (*There are many wonderful people who aren’t pictured here).

I was talking to my hospitalist friend about our approaches to determining the etiology of hyponatremia. Hers definitely made me laugh 😂

Dialysis dietitian and social worker for the win! Not only do they do amazing work for our patients, they also make a great team as right and left kidneys! Happy almost Halloween!

Career advice for all the med students/young docs out there. If you’re not much of an artist (I am not), pick a specialty where it’s really easy when you want to draw pictures for your patients. Ie- reason 1,000 why I love Nephrology!

In case anyone wants to know a reason why I love Nephrology so much…just look at how cool and BEAUTIFUL the kidney is! @arkanalabs, these scanning EM pics are the best! Thanks for posting.

Today’s #eyeSCANdy image shows scanning EM of a normal glomerulus with a glomerular capillary loop with interdigitating podocyte foot processes. #pathart 🍬👀🔬 📸 credits to Dr. Stephen Bonsib!

Just realized that the poster I used was a relic from drug rep swag days. This tweet was in no way meant to be an endorsement or advertisement for the visible medication. No COI to report

Finished my first week on service as a Nephrology attending. What a whirlwind! Made all the better though by having a great team of residents excited to learn about Nephrology and listen to my rants about how amazing urine microscopy is!

When Broadway and medicine intersect 😍 Though now I can’t get the song 96,000 from #IntheHeights out of my head. Not a bad problem to have though.

My friends just got married and will be going to DisneyWorld for their honeymoon. I of course had to make sure that they would be well hydrated, so I got them matching Disney themed “Just Married” water bottles...I just couldn’t help myself!
