In #worldhistory next semester, I'll cover medieval (Byzantine to Mamluk) #Palestine. I'm looking at Masalha (Palestine), Cobb (Race for Paradise) and primary sources like Benjamin of Tudela, Ibn Jubayr and al-Maqdisi. Any other suggestions for good undergrad friendly resources?

Hello friends! I am testing the water over at Bluesky. Who should I follow for world and Chinese history, space and place, climate and environment, and left and liberatory politics? I'm at @rmostern.bsky.social over there.

Oof, this one hurts me. Goodbye (or perhaps in honor of Wordle, I should say adieu) to my 800+ day crossword streak, and no pausing from doomscrolling during this most anxious week to do the Spelling Bee. But, as they say, "break your streak, don't break the strike."
We’re on strike at the New York Times. No playing Wordle, the crossword or any of the games. Stand with @NYTGuildTech in demanding a fair first contract!

I'm honored to have helped bring this video into the world. I learned a lot from @flodin_ali, Calum Matheson, Tony Novosel, Mrinalini Rajagopalan, and @dr_anasekulic about about how to discuss difficult topics in classroom settings.
We are thrilled to share “Pedagogy in an Age of Religious Nationalism” a video featuring 5 scholars sharing strategies for fostering constructive classroom experiences. This project was supported by @PittProvost Year of Discourse & Dialogue! Learn more: https://t.co/nyMzPKZmE3

Tim Walz was one of the first politicians to call for an immediate ceasefire & release of all hostages. And when asked about the Uncommitted Movement, did NOT condemn them or demonize them. Instead, he said "they're civically engaged & should be listened to." Now he'll be VP.✊🏽

You know you're done with what you're writing when you look up an abstruse loose end and you're directed to your own prior publications about the topic.

A great good fortune of my career in the last decade has been the opportunity to work closely with Karl Grossner @kgeographer in his role as Technical Director and Lead Developer of the World Historical Gazetteer @WHGazetteer. Now, with all my esteem and friendship (1/2)

Moral Economy of the Peasant set my intellectual course as an undergrad, Seeing Like a State anchored my dissertation. For the last decade, Jim was one of the wisest and strongest supporters of my work. His forthcoming book about the Irrawadi River will be terrific. What a loss.
Devastated to learn that the political scientist James C. Scott recently passed away. Such a generous, brilliant, and original thinker, from "Weapons of the Weak" to "Moral Economy of the Peasant" to "Seeing Like a State" to "Against the Grain."
