The Victoria Ground was home to Stoke City for well over a century. A modest venue squeezed in between terraced houses and the River Trent, it once held over 51,000 for a cup game. After City moved out in 1997 it laid derelict for a while before houses were built on the site.

In two days, Jason Burt has gone from praising Lee Carsley for being ahead of his time to saying he cannot be England manager if he doesn’t sing about in deference to a jug-eared sausage-fingered nonce protector. What a funny little nation we are.
TELEGRAPH SPORT: If Carsley doesn’t sing anthem he can’t expect to manage England #TomorrowsPapersToday

We are trying to recruit a manager who has already won League One. And still people will say there is no forward planning at this football club. 👏🏼 #scfc

Geoff Hurst, Jimmy Greenhoff & Alan Hudson with Terry Conroy (I think?) celebrating v Man City in 1975. It couldn’t be a more English scene if they were each holding a scone & a cup of tea.

Pele's rivalry and friendship with Gordon Banks is a lovely story. Banks on save of the century: “As I got to my feet Pele came up to me and patted me on the back. `I thought that was a goal.’ he said. `You and me both,’ I replied." https://t.co/akeB2EznR4
