Our next timeline will cover antiquity and classical times. We hope to have this published by the end of the Northern summer. After that, we’ll switch our focus to thematic timelines, starting with fundraising controversies.

The 1500-1899 #fundraisinghistory timeline also suggests that woman have played a larger role in the development of fundraising as a profession than previously acknowledged. By 1893, there were 20,000 women with paid roles as fundraisers.

Our rationale for the #fundraisinghistory timelines is not just for idle interest, but as a tool to help us gain a better understanding of how our profession has evolved and developed, and thus gain new insights into how to improve it.

We’ll be following up with #fundraisinghistory timelines for the period 1500-1899, Middle Ages, and antiquity. We’ll also do thematic timelines for topics including fundraising firsts, social/cultural ideas & shifts, emergence of new ideas, and fundraising controversies.
