With network calls, traditional web integrations become possible. Access closed-source AI model APIs, interact with GitHub repositories, spawn cloud services dynamically, and even make real-world purchases. All from a smart contract.

2️⃣ True Internet Capital Markets. With the ability to link web services to smart contract flows, new businesses that combine the flexibility of offchain web services with on-chain economic and cryptographic primitives are now possible.

This unlocks new application categories like:. 1️⃣ Onchain Agents. Onchain agents can interact with both off-chain and onchain services, using web services to inform on-chain actions or on-chain actions to trigger events for offchain services.

For example, network calls enable access to authenticated API services like OpenAI or other enterprise models directly from a smart contract. With Ritual, this enables access to both open-source and closed-source models with flexible privacy options around inference.

The architecture leverages Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs). When your contract makes a network call:. • The HTTP request executes in a secure hardware enclave.• Results are cryptographically attested.• Secrets are kept private.• No tampering can occur during execution.

Ritual’s Network Call Sidecar enables smart contracts to initiate HTTP requests directly. Access any API, fetch real-time data, or integrate with existing web services, all from a smart contract. This unlocks a new design space for onchain applications.

Serious onchain applications need more than oracles. They need the flexibility to connect to new web services/data feeds fast, the ability to enable those services and their smart contracts to communicate, and verification that this was all done correctly. That’s why we built.
