⚽️ Ok, let's talk about player identification. Right now, there are 3 fatal flaws in the current

⚽️🇨🇦 Determining the developmental age of youth athletes is FREE & EASY to do, and it should be MANDATORY for programs with "development" in their name.
@OntarioIsSoccer

@CanadaSoccerEN

⬇️ Change my mind.
@OntarioIsSoccer
Your $100,000 "Scholarship" is the metaphorical equivalent of putting a bandaid over a mortal wound. Your "Development League" has 4000 players & costs $5000 per player, per year (not including travel, etc.), so $100k will only cover the fees of 0.5% of the players in the league.
@OntarioIsSoccer
Shouldn't you pledge for your "high-performance" programs to be inclusive to individuals of all socioeconomic statuses? Do talented Canadian youth soccer players who can't afford the $5-10k/year fees in your "Player Development League" not deserve to "enjoy the beautiful game"?
As a general rule, when an incompetent government like
@OntarioIsSoccer
tells you not to do something, that something is the exact thing you SHOULD be doing. (Remember when we were told not to go outside)?
"Sanctioning" is another nail in the coffin of an already broken system.
Can someone explain to me, how a club or an academy can be held accountable for a playing unsanctioned soccer?
@OntarioIsSoccer
I’d love yo understand in detail.
I’m struggling to understand how a player can be tracked on days of and told what he or she cannot do?
@OntarioIsSoccer
If you really want to "keep sport fun," shouldn't you start by disbanding your "player development league/talent ID programs"? I can't think of anything less fun for youth soccer players (or parents) than being coerced into a rigged system which they know is rigged.

The key in Europe, above all else, is that the talent ID is done by "qualified" people. They become qualified via education delivered by experts, and experience working with/under the guidance of experts. Here in Canada, we do NOT have experts providing education or leadership.

Hi
@mattyoung101
excellent point. I've researched, posted, & written a lot (& published a little) about training load in youth sports (mostly soccer). A piece which is often missed/misunderstood is exactly HOW to accurately quantify "load." Sometimes, volume alone isn't enough!
Observing in season dry-land training volumes, coupled with over scheduled practice sessions + multi-game tournament weekends shows just how little multiple sport stakeholders know [or care] about load management.
Explains why so many athletes are burning out & getting injured
