I’ve been learning about the decline of the African penguin here at #IMCC7. It could be extinct in my lifetime due to overfishing of their prey (sardines) amongst other pressures. There’s a petition here if you feel moved to sign it:

Privileged to be at the #IMCC7 in Cape Town to talk about my PhD research on marine rewilding. Great workshop this afternoon on building marine conservation around community values. Looking forward to the rest of the week! Huge thanks to the FSBI for a travel grant.

Life of a PhD researcher. On holiday, took opportunity to pick up samples & equipment stored for me at Diglis Lock. The lovely @CanalRiverTrust staff Mark & Callum entertain/educated my kids explaining locks & weirs. Of course my kids chose to ask what the sewage outlet was!!

Back to work today for one of our researchers, @KristyAnna9 after a short break in the Scottish Highlands where we watched dolphins from the shores of the Moray Firth and drove around the banks of Loch Ness. 🐬🏞️🦌 #BackToWork #ScottishHighlands #NatureBreak

This time of year, most of us have been busy carrying out fieldwork. Here @ClareCowgill (plus many others) helped me collect samples for my river eDNA modelling work. It was gruelling, as fieldwork often is. I'm due to return the favour, with a much easier trip in a few weeks!
