Sabbath sign out: I’m clinging to this prayer from tonight’s service with Arab Christians: “A shelter and protection and a wall unshaken, become O Theotokos, for those who flee to thee, a sheltered cover and a refuge and a place of joy.”

Sabbath Sign Out: on my way to dinner with friends & my beloved, I put my foot right thru my wool sock. The saying goes “The cobbler’s children have no shoes,” but I teach mending. It’s God’s gift to rest and gather and repair. We will need to for the road ahead. 🧦 🧵🙏💙🪡

Sabbath sign out: on my beautiful bike ride home, someone had posted these stickers “God is madly in love with you.” Even if others don’t believe it, even if you don’t yet believe it, God does. May we rest in that love.

"Most important, Trump is the first candidate in memory who ran not for president but for autocrat—and won."

In the face of the impulse to normalize, it is essential to maintain one’s capacity for shock. This will lead people to call you unreasonable and hysterical, and to accuse you of overreacting. It is...

"Surviving Autocracy" by @mashagessen following 1st Trump election: (buy it, it will be 2nd Bible). 1: Believe the autocrat. 2: Do not be taken in by small signs of normality. 3: Institutions will not save you. 4: Be outraged. 5: Don’t make compromises. 6: Remember the future

Russia calling in bomb threats to polling places in liberal districts across the country should be bigger news right now. They’re interfering for Trump right in the open, right in front of our faces

Good job, NJ. What a profoundly decent human being in Senator elect @AndyKimNJ
We just won our Senate race! As a son of immigrants, a public school kid, I never could’ve imagined I’d get to serve as a US Senator. I’m deeply humbled and grateful to NJ and for everyone who got us here. I promise I’ll serve with honor and integrity as a public servant for all.

Guy in my Boston neighborhood was playing cello at the polling station (plus the car driving with the bass pumping in the background) and I burst into tears. So apparently that’s how I’m doing. #PlayTheVote

there is no irony. none.
Jason Yates warned Christians that secular progressives were promoting sexual deviance. The former CEO of My Faith Votes, a conservative pro-voting group with ties to evangelical leaders, was charged yesterday with 8 child porn felonies https://t.co/PchUzpKqZU

It is only because of the grace and mercy of Jesus Christ that I didn't just pop off on someone. Let the people say Amen.

Shout out to my mother in law for coming up with “nauseously optimistic” to describe the current mood.

I know this has become so normal, but I remain stunned how anyone who identifies as a Christian would call another human made in the image of God “trash.”
How is it being so normalized that in the final week of the election, they’ve called potentially the first woman president in US history a cunt, a “sleaze bag,” trash, and a prostitute?

As for me and my house? We made a community care plan for #ElectionDay week, which includes cooking tonight enough that can hold us for a while: behold, butternut squash quiche. No NYT Cooking Recipe here! Just trad wasp mourning food from memory.

"The broad sense that things are “back to normal,” is deceiving, said @drvailewright , the @APA senior director for health care innovation. “The nation is experiencing the psychological effects of a collective trauma.” Bookmark this @JanelleNanos story:
