In recent decades, the systems we've used for trust have decayed. Not because they were poorly designed for the world at the time - but because the world has shifted underneath them. I believe we can address and fix many of these issues - but it'll take some time.

A general might depose an autocrat from an empire by force - or sign their own death warrant if their soldiers choose not to recognize the order. A state might confirm a federal law whilst refusing to enforce it. The tactics evolve with the context - and context always changes.

Some animals compete by moving faster than anything trying to catch it. Others hide or play dead. The tactics change because the systems involved are _open_ systems. A bear can be frightened. A rabbit can be distracted. Humans can negotiate, empathize and reason.
